NJC, Appeal Court Address Mysterious Death Rumors of Two Justices.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Court of Appeal have strongly refuted claims circulating on social media about the mysterious deaths of two justices who upheld President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election victory.
These reports, labeled as false and misleading, have been thoroughly dismissed by both institutions. Rumours suggested that Justice Mistura Bolaji-Yusuf and Justice Boloukuoromo Moses Ugo, members of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, had died under suspicious circumstances.
One claim alleged that Justice Bolaji-Yusuf was found dead shortly after appearing healthy, while another suggested that Justice Ugo passed away after strange noises from his room, with family members reportedly discovering him bleeding and unresponsive.
In response, NJC Secretary Ahmed Gambo Saleh issued a statement assuring the public that the claims were entirely false. “Please ignore the news; it is a lie. The justices are alive, well, and continuing their duties,” Saleh emphasized.
A senior Court of Appeal official also condemned the rumours, calling them “the work of mischief-makers” and reaffirming that the justices remain in good health.
It is important to note that the panel of judges, which upheld the results of the February 25, 2023, presidential election, declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the legitimate winner.
The tribunal dismissed petitions from opposition candidates Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who had contested the election results.
