We Will Resist Attempt to Stop Payment of Workers’ Salaries in Rivers State, NLC says

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning against any attempt to obstruct the payment of salaries to workers in Rivers State.

The call was made by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, during a National Executive Council meeting held in Rivers State on Friday. Ajaero highlighted the union’s readiness to confront any action that threatens workers’ livelihoods.

He stated, “We will resist any effort aimed at disrupting salary payments. The well-being of our workers should not be compromised under any circumstances.”

Court Order Against Rivers State Funds

The NLC’s warning comes shortly after a Federal High Court issued an order preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other financial institutions from disbursing funds to the Rivers State Government. The court’s decision has raised concerns about the potential impact on the financial stability of the state and the ability to meet salary obligations.

NLC Appeals to the Judiciary

In his address, Joe Ajaero also called on the judiciary to exercise caution in its rulings, particularly those that could adversely affect the welfare of workers. He urged the judicial system to consider the implications of its decisions on the workforce, stressing that the economic stability of workers should be a priority.

The NLC’s stance signals a strong commitment to safeguarding the interests of workers in Rivers State, amidst ongoing financial and legal challenges facing the state government.
