Abuja Federal High Court Threatens to Jail DSS Director General for Contempt.
The Abuja Federal High Court has issued a stern warning to Yusuf Bichi, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), threatening him with imprisonment for alleged contempt of court.
The court’s threat follows repeated instances of the DSS disobeying its rulings regarding visitation orders for Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the secret police.

The notice, which was sent to our correspondent by Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, stated: “TAKE NOTICE that unless you obey the directions contained in this Order, you will be guilty of Contempt of Court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”
Our correspondent noted that the notice was acknowledged by DSS operatives Tina James and Fatima Abdul.
This development comes after the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, refused Kanu’s application to restore his bail on May 20, 2024. Instead, the court issued an order modifying the conditions of counsel visitation to Kanu. The court aimed to ensure that Kanu’s lawyers have adequate opportunities to prepare him for trial, thereby guaranteeing a fair trial.
Justice Nyako ordered that Kanu be allowed to meet with up to five of his lawyers, with such consultations to take place in a “clean” room at the State Security Services facility where Kanu is detained.
The court’s warning underscores the importance of compliance with judicial orders and the potential legal consequences of defiance.
