Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reportedly severed ties with his legal team after an unsuccessful attempt to secure his release from continued incarceration. The decision was communicated to the legal team shortly after a recent ruling by the Supreme Court.

Kanu has replaced his former legal team, led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a prominent legal figure in the country, with another legal luminary from Cross River State.

The source revealed that Nnamdi Ejimakor and Nnameka Ejiofor, members of the previous legal team, met with Kanu, who requested them to formally terminate the legal contract.

The source stated, “They have already done that, and the Senior Advocate of Nigeria has received the letter terminating the contract.”

The reason behind this change is attributed to Kanu’s dissatisfaction with the previous legal team’s performance. Allegedly, he believes they did not do enough to quash his case and secure his release.

Additionally, Kanu reportedly lost confidence in the team’s ability to facilitate his transfer from the Department of State Services (DSS) cell to the Kuje Correctional Service, where he could have more freedom to interact with friends and relatives.

The report suggests that Kanu is also displeased with his medical team, expressing the view that they have not produced a convincing medical report that could lead to the transfer of his treatment from the DSS hospital and doctors to his preferred private medical practitioners outside Nigeria.

The change in legal representation adds another layer to the complex legal saga surrounding Nnamdi Kanu, raising questions about the strategies employed in his defense and the potential impact on his ongoing legal battles.
