NNPCL Announces Fresh Date for Commencement of Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a new date for the commercial commencement of the Port Harcourt Refinery, now set for September 2024. This was disclosed by Umar Ajiya, the Chief Financial Officer of NNPCL, during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Ajiya stated that petroleum products from the refinery would be ready for testing before being supplied to the domestic market in September. This update follows several previous announcements of start dates, all of which have been delayed. In July, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, indicated that the refinery would begin operations in August.

Before this, the company had also set March and July 2024 as potential commencement dates following the refinery’s mechanical completion in December 2023.

 

The ongoing rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery aims to restore its capacity to 250,000 barrels per day.
