Peter Obi, a hero for foiling Atiku’s victory, says Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike has hailed Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi as the 2023 presidential election’s hero for thwarting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar’s chances and preventing North from retaining power.
Wike told a group of Rivers state merchants associations in Port Harcourt on Saturday, “Obi is my hero. If Obi had not contested, the North would have regained power. If Obi had not run, the PDP would have won the entire South-South and South-East regions it lost.

Obi is the protagonist. Despite the fact that he was not declared the winner, the law will take its course. If Obi had not run in this election, the North would have retained power. Whether or not he is declared the winner at this time, history will show that he fought and fought well.”
The governor criticised his predecessor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for enticing Igbos in Rivers to vote for Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor, while allegedly mobilising votes for Atiku in the presidential election.
Why didn’t Amaechi support Obi if he loves the Igbos? He instead backed Atiku. Wike accused Amaechi of not wanting power to return to the South because he lost his APC nomination.

The governor added that Amaechi is deliberately campaigning for Cole to become the next governor of Rivers in order to avoid prosecution for alleged $50 million embezzlement from Rivers government coffers.
Anunobi Ikechi, chairman of the Computer Dealers Association, and Okwudili Onuorah, chairman of the Building Materials Traders Association, assured the governor of their support for the Rivers PDP.
