NYSC has Denied Alleged N70,000 Minimum Wage for Corps Members.
A statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, said the National Youth Service Corps had not at any time directed corps members to upgrade their accounts in preparation for receiving the N70,000 minimum wage, as being peddled on social media.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, NYSC said that no such circular has been released while adding that the information being peddled on social media is an outright falsehood.
“Corps members, parents, and members of the public are hereby enjoined to note that no such directive has been received from any relevant sector of government responsible for wage matters,” Mr. Megwa said. “It is, therefore, impossible for the NYSC to issue any directive on such.”
The statement reiterated that corps members are conversant with the official channels and modes of communication within the scheme and should disregard the wrong information going round.
“The NYSC urges corps members to desist from allowing mischief makers to play on their intelligence,” Mr. Megwa added.
Also, the NYSC warned bloggers and social media influencers against unauthorized statements with respect to NYSC management.
The organization has, through this statement, come out to react to increased speculation and false information going around about possible changes in the stipends paid to corps members, a very important issue among youths and their families.
