CESJET says ” Buhari acted to save Scheme from embarrassment”
The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has praised the removal of Brigadier Muhammad Fadah from his position as Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), deeming him unsuited for the role.
Friday in Abuja, the organisation stated that President Muhammadu Buhari took swift action to save the Scheme from what it termed “additional shame.”
Fadah’s dismissal occurred less than six months after he started an office in May 2022, becoming the nineteenth individual to hold the role of NYSC DG.
Comrade Isaac Ikpa, the executive director of CESJET, told reporters that Fadah lacked vision and direction for the NYSC and was thus fired.
“As an institution committed to good governance in Nigeria, we applaud President Muhammadu Buhari’s long overdue move to relieve the NYSC DG of his position. Brig Gen MK Fadah has been a misfit ever since he assumed his position. Ikpa stated that he lacked the vision and determination to accomplish the mission of the NYSC.
“It is documented that the past six months have been the least productive in the history of the NYSC, as the former DG converted the organisation into a fiefdom where his friends took over the scheme’s operations to the detriment of directors and heads of departments.
It was a time of favouritism and reversal of reforms initiated by the previous administration. Therefore, it was not surprising that the former director general engaged in conduct unbecoming of a senior officer of the Nigerian Army.
Brig Gen MK Fadah’s tenure at the NYSC was marred by forgeries and an inability to achieve results when it matters. Instead, he embarked on a spending binge, diverting cash intended for the welfare of corpers and other purposes.
“We would like to inform the public that Brig. Gen. MK Fadah fabricated his academic credentials and lied about his age, as determined by an investigation by the NYSC Board.
Therefore, it is regrettable that such an anomaly would occur in a central agency for young development in the nation. Therefore, President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to relieve him of his position is a step on the correct path towards reversing the NYSC’s downfall.
“The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency is of the firm belief that Brig. Gen. MK Fadah should be court-martialed for forgery and falsification of age, which facilitated his appointment as NYSC DG.
“There should be no sacred cows, and as such, we are calling on Mr President and other relevant government agencies to act in the best interest of the country if we are truly interested in constructing the nation of our dreams.
Brig Gen MK Fadah’s behaviour was reprehensible and badly impacted the operations of the NYSC. Staff and corps members’ morale was at its lowest point in the past six months.
“Therefore, we must agree that Mr President acted in the best interest of the country. We applaud President Muhammadu Buhari’s courage in this regard, which demonstrates a leader who listens and is aware of what is happening in the country.
The Centre, therefore demanded that the Chief of Army Staff “do everything necessary to reprimand Brigadier General MK Fadah for bringing disrepute to the esteemed Nigerian Army in the eyes of the general public.”
