Some individuals in the two chambers have requested a prompt evaluation of the agreement, while APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, urged the discontented lawmakers to remain composed.

The speaker stated that the NWC will review the zoning arrangement after consulting with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed upon his return from his working tour of Europe.

Obasanjo spoke to reporters in Abuja on Saturday, urging all elected members of the 10th National Assembly to support the party’s decision and unite behind the consensus candidates in the interest of democracy and the incoming administration.

He acknowledged the principle of separation of powers among the three branches of government but stated that it is not entirely absolute.

The speaker characterised the NWC’s decision as considerate and emphasised that working harmoniously with other branches of government would benefit the nation.

Obasanjo commented on Akpabio’s selection as Senate President, stating that he has demonstrated his capabilities as a former governor and minister.

They also mentioned their experiences as senators during the 8th National Assembly. Obasanjo mentioned that Akpabio, as a senator and minority leader, opposed Saraki’s leadership style as Senate President and decided to join the ruling party to contribute to the political strength of the Assembly.

Senator Akpabio obtained the APC’s presidential nomination form and later withdrew from the primary, allowing Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become the party’s presidential candidate.

Senator Akpabio has gained the approval and confidence of the party’s leadership, the president-elect, and other relevant parties. His nomination as the next president of the Senate is seen as a positive development.

Regarding the Speakership, Obasanjo stated that Hon. Tajudeen Abass has made significant contributions to law-making, which could make him a suitable candidate for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

This individual from the Zazzau royal family has sponsored 74 bills, and 21 of them have been signed into law by the President.

Abass has been re-elected for a third term to represent his constituents in the House, indicating a high level of trust and support from his constituents.

Abass’s constituency projects are present in various parts of the constituency, and he has contributed to 21 out of the 114 bills signed into law between 2019 and now, despite being one of 360 members in the House.

The APC leader requested the support of all elected lawmakers for Akpabio as President of the Senate and Abass as Speaker of the House of Representatives, emphasising the importance of competence in both the executive and legislative branches.
