Presidency Rebukes Peter Obi for Criticizing Supreme Court Ruling
The Presidency has responded to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), over his recent comments regarding the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of President Bola Tinubu.
According to the Presidency, Obi, who once benefitted from judicial rulings when he reclaimed his governorship mandate in Anambra State in 2007, is now criticizing the same judiciary system following the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of President Tinubu on October 26, 2023.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed astonishment at how Obi and his faction of the Labour Party convinced themselves that they had won an election in which they secured a distant third place.
Onanuga emphasized that judicial decisions are not influenced by public opinion or popular sentiments, but rather by evidence, precedents, and the rule of law.
He urged Obi to set aside criticisms and extend congratulations to President Tinubu for his victory, exhibiting the spirit of statesmanship.
The Presidency also welcomed Obi and his party to play the role of the opposition, while encouraging them to start preparing for another opportunity at the presidency in 2027.

“We hope by then he would campaign on issues and not whip up religious and ethnic sentiments as he did in the last campaign,” Onanuga added.
