The controversy arose when two documents surfaced online, each bearing different signatures purportedly belonging to Governor Akeredolu. Addressing the media after the state Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, stated categorically that there is no forgery of the governor’s signature.

This marks the first Executive Council meeting held in the past three months, and it was presided over by the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Governor Akeredolu’s son, Babajide, who serves as the Director General of the Performance and Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit (PPIMU), was present at the meeting alongside other key officials.

Olateju clarified that the files she submitted to Governor Akeredolu were duly approved and returned to her. The commissioner emphasized that during the meeting, they discussed the resolutions reached in Abuja, particularly those arising from the meeting with President Tinubu. The decisions made during the Abuja meeting were conveyed to other Executive Council members who were not in attendance.

The Ondo State Executive Council, according to Olateju, unanimously agreed to abide by the resolutions and embrace peace. Notably, the Council approved a wage award of N35,000 for civil servants in the state during the meeting.

Addressing the issue of alleged signature forgery, Olateju asserted that only a forensic expert could determine the authenticity of the signatures in question. She reassured the public that there is no illicit attempt to use the Governor’s signature for financial gain.

“I sent two files to the Governor, and they came back. It was not different from what I am accustomed to. Nobody is forging the Governor’s signature to take out money. The Governor is not bigger than the Executive Council. We vowed to work for the progress of Ondo State. Social media fake news peddlers should desist from spreading fake news,” Olateju stated firmly.

The commissioner concluded by urging the public to await the findings of a forensic expert to ascertain the legitimacy of the signatures in question.
