Ondo poly lecturers begin strike over unpaid 13 months salary
The lecturers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, have initiated industrial action to protest non-payment of 13 months’ salary.
Therefore, the aggrieved lecturers, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, RUGIPO chapter, have vowed not to participate in the school’s upcoming first semester examinations on Tuesday, unless the government takes appropriate action.

This was stated in a communique issued at the conclusion of the union’s congress on Thursday. The union’s chairman, Comrade Arikawe Ade, and secretary, Comrade Fapetu Damilola, signed the communiqué.
According to the communiqué, the members’ union voted unanimously to withdraw their services at the conclusion of their congress, so industrial action began on Friday.

The communiqué stated, “We demand full payment of all outstanding (13-month) salary arrears owed to the institution’s staff.” The Congress wishes to emphasize that the aforementioned decision is binding on all financial union members.”
It added that prior to making the decision, the union observed that the current price of fuel makes it extremely difficult for their members to attend work and perform their official duties.
The Congress also described as pitiful the plight of its members due to a backlog of unpaid salaries, urging the state government to assist the institution’s authorities in clearing the salary arrears in the same manner as the state and local government employees who are not owed salaries.
