Barrister Juliet Isi Ikhayere, ADC House of Reps Candidate Declares Support for Peter Obi

Barrister Juliet Isi Ikhayere, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the House of Representatives in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja’s AMAC/Bwari district recently shocked Nigerians on social media by announcing her support for Labour Party (LP) presidential contender Peter Obi.

In lieu of 2023, Peter Obi has received the backing of one of Nigeria’s most powerful young women in politics.

Labour Party presidential candidate Obi was endorsed by Barrister Juliet Isi Ikhayere in a tweet that went viral on Friday, October 14.

She did this by posting a picture of herself and Obi holding a banner that read:

Barrister Juliet Isi Ikhayere, ADC House of Reps Candidate, Declares Support for Peter Obi 

“Unapologetically supporting the decision of the majority. To a Nigeria that benefits all of us.

Many Nigerians who support Obi and other Nigerians who praised her for her bravery gave the tweet a thumbs up.

The decision was made for various reasons, which Barrister Ikhayere, a former national secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum, outlined in an exclusive interview with newsmen in Abuja.

She said:

“I am not a coward, and one of the reasons I publicly supported Peter Obi is because of his transparently admirable record.

With him running, I think we will see a government that values transparency and is answerable to the people.

When asked if she felt that what she was doing was against the party, Barrister Ikhayere responded:

“My party has already kicked our presidential candidate out, but that is not the issue since we all know that they have not been running for office.

“My party is the only entity that can bring a lawsuit against me for anti-party activities, but they have not done so.

And the reason for that is that I am confident they are aware of my integrity. I am not subject to the Labour Party’s constitution, so they cannot sue me.

In any case, I am a Nigerian first and a candidate second. Even if I was not running for office, Peter Obi would still have my support.

I do not fear anything. “Peter Obi’s ascent is timely; it has the power to change the political landscape. Furthermore, I am speaking as a regular Nigerian, not as a politician.
