Atiku’s Camp Reacts to Controversy: Questions Raised Over Buhari’s Nephew’s Role

In a surprising turn of events, the camp of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has responded to reports suggesting that it wasn’t ex-President Muhammadu Buhari but his nephew, Sabiu Tunde ‘Yusuf,’ who approved the redesign of the naira.

Daniel Bwala, a prominent PDP chieftain and spokesperson for Atiku during the elections, expressed dismay over the revelation. He stated, “It is shocking and regrettable that the special investigator, in his alleged report, is attempting to exonerate Muhammadu Buhari by saying that it was not PMB who authorized the but his nephew.”

Bwala raised pertinent questions, seeking clarity on the nephew’s official status, the authority granting approval, the president in office at the time, the accountability of the governor, and ultimately, where the responsibility lies.

“Meanwhile, has spent months in custody, the nephew of PMB and PMB are free somewhere. The rule of law dictates that nobody is above the law; and everyone is equal before it,” Bwala emphasized.

These remarks stem from the findings of Special Investigator Jim Obazee, assigned to investigate the Central Bank of Nigeria and related entities. Obazee’s final report, titled ‘Report of the Special Investigation on CBN and Related Entities (Chargeable Offences),’ was reportedly submitted to President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.

It’s noteworthy that Tinubu appointed Obazee, a former Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, as the CBN special investigator in a letter dated July 28, 2023.

As this controversy unfolds, the nation awaits further details and clarification on the intricate web of approvals, responsibilities, and the implications of the decision.
