According to the eyewitness, the abduction took place along the Rumuji axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State’s Emohua Local Government Area.
Five of the kidnapped corps members escaped and promptly reported the incident to the Rumuji Divisional Police Station.
This online newspaper has been informed that it is currently unknown how many corps members are still being held captive by the kidnappers, as well as how many other passengers were also kidnapped during the incident.
The Rivers State Police Command has formally acknowledged the kidnapping of these youths.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed that some of the kidnapped corps members have been rescued, and that intensive efforts are being made to secure the release of those still held captive.
Notable is the fact that Dr. Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, has recently declared one Nwodi Onuigwe to be a wanted person, suspected of being the mastermind behind the kidnappings.
On Monday, Lloyd announced a N1 million reward for anyone with information leading to the capture of Onuigwe, dead or alive.
In addition, Lloyd suspended the salaries of the Emohua Vigilante Service (EMOVIS) until the capture of the alleged kingpin and his gang members.
Lloyd accuses them of illegal oil bunkering, armed robberies, kidnappings, and attacks on regional security agencies.
