Tinubu-Led Government Assures End to Nationwide Fuel Scarcity by Weekend.

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the ongoing fuel scarcity will be resolved by the weekend, following concerns about the widespread hardship caused by the situation. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, made the announcement on September 5 after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima and Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Lokpobiri stated that President Bola Tinubu is deeply concerned about the difficulties being faced by the public due to the fuel scarcity. He emphasized that the government is not fixing fuel prices, but expects prices to stabilize once product availability increases.

“We believe that between now and the weekend, there will be availability of products across the country,” Lokpobiri said. “The prices may vary across regions, but once there is enough supply, the price will stabilize.”

The minister urged Nigerians to avoid panic buying, reassuring them that there is sufficient petrol in the country to meet demand. He reiterated that the fuel sector is fully deregulated, and prices are expected to adjust naturally as supply improves.

The scarcity and subsequent price hikes have significantly affected transport fares, with prices soaring by over 50% in several major cities. The NNPCL recently increased petrol prices to between N855 and N897 per litre, depending on the region, from the previous N568-N617 per litre.

The government’s intervention is expected to bring relief to Nigerians as the weekend approaches, alleviating the transportation and cost-of-living challenges posed by the fuel shortage.
