The Nigeria Police Force has declared Andrew Wynne, a British national also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, wanted for allegedly conspiring to overthrow the government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The announcement was made on Monday, sparking significant concerns over national security.
According to the police, Wynne is believed to be at the center of a plot involving foreign mercenaries and subversive elements aiming to destabilize Nigeria’s democratically-elected government. The force has launched a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.

Speaking at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, police spokesperson ASP Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed that Wynne had rented a space at Labour House in Abuja under the guise of establishing the ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and had also set up ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as a cover for his alleged subversive activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country,” Adejobi stated.
He further disclosed that nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the plot, all of whom allegedly received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to carry out their activities.
The investigation has so far revealed that these individuals were involved in organizing and funding violent protests, spreading false information, and engaging in other unlawful acts aimed at creating chaos and justifying an illegal attempt to overthrow the government.

This revelation follows the recent arrest of several Polish nationals by the Department of State Services (DSS) during a protest in Kano.
The Polish government insisted that their citizens were in Nigeria as part of an exchange program at Bayero University and were not involved in the protests. Despite these claims, the individuals were detained for several weeks before being released.
In a related development, the police have also summoned Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), regarding Wynne’s activities at Labour House in Abuja. Although Ajaero initially responded to a police invitation last week, a new summons has since been issued for further questioning.

The police have intensified their efforts to track down Wynne and dismantle the alleged plot, as the situation continues to unfold. President Tinubu has yet to publicly comment on the matter, but the government’s response to these developments will be closely watched in the coming days.
