The Delta Police Command has reportedly arrested a suspect in Sapele Town on suspicion of financing the “Aro Bagger” cult engaged in several killings.
Ejes Gist News reports that four officers of the Nigerian Vigilant Group have been killed in the month of January in Sapele.
DSP Bright Edafe, the police’s spokesman, told reporters in Effurun on Wednesday that the suspect was apprehended by a combined team from the Police, Department of State Service (DSS), and Operation Delta Hawk.

According to Edafe, the team apprehended the suspect in an undisclosed hotel on Monday after receiving an intelligence report.
“As a result of the cult clashes in Sapele, Oghara, and other areas of the state, the Delta Command Police Commissioner, Mr. Ari Ali, deployed tactical teams to Sapele to restore peace in the affected areas.

“Therefore, on January 23, 2023, a combined team of the Command Special Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), operatives of the DSS, and men of Operation Delta Hawk stormed a hotel based on credible intelligence on an alleged sponsor of the “Aro bagger” cult group and also an active member of the group.
Joseph Ologbo, a well-known suspect and active member of the Aro Bagger cult, was arrested there, he said.
Edafe reported that a search of the suspect’s tinted Toyota Tundra Van yielded an unlicensed pump action firearm, two live cartridges, one spent cartridge, and “Aro Bagger” cult paraphernalia.

The spokesman added that the suspect had provided helpful information.
He stated that the suspect would be charged with the crime as soon as the investigation was concluded.
