Lagos, Nigeria — The police command in Lagos state has successfully foiled an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack targeting residents of Ikeja on Wednesday afternoon. This was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement.

The officer spotted an unregistered Corolla car parked conspicuously on the main road near the gate of Police Mobile Force 23 Barracks.
A young man was seen alighting from the car, carefully placing a bag by the fence of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit office, before hastily driving off.
Recognizing the potential threat, the officer promptly reported the incident to the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) base in Ikeja. An EOD-CBRN team was swiftly mobilized to the scene to investigate the suspicious object.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed the presence of an IED. The area was immediately cordoned off to ensure public safety. The IED was safely neutralized and transported to a secure location for detonation. Residual components of the device were collected for further analysis and investigation to trace its origins and the individuals involved.
In his statement, Mr. Hundeyin reassured Lagos residents that the situation was under control and that normalcy had been restored. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The swift response by the police highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of Lagos residents amidst growing concerns over public safety.
