Police arrest 68-year old traditional ruler for alleged culpable homicide
In the Yelwa neighbourhood of the Bauchi Metropolis, the Police Command has detained 68-year-old Galadiman Dass, the traditional title holder, on suspicion of culpable homicide.
This was mentioned in a statement made on Monday in Bauchi by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil.

He said that Alhaji Mohammmed Damina (Galadiman Dass), a suspected traditional title holder, had been detained for the alleged murder of Alhaji Adamu Babanta, 67, who died in a terrible car accident.
“Yesterday, October 30, 2022, at around 19:30 hours, a case of a deadly motor accident from the Yelwa Division was transferred for a covert investigation.
“One Mohammed Damina, Galadiman Dass, 68-year-old native of Yelwa, lured one Khadijah Adamu Babanta.

According to the spokesman, “when Galadima enticed her, she told her father about it and then told the father that the man was waiting for her at the Total filling station.”
“Her father followed her to the place,” he continued. When the now-deceased father arrived, they were conversing on his car’s passenger side when he confronted Galadima.
“Galadima sped off the vehicle while the deceased was still clinging to the car door to the point he fell and was rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the report reads.

“Any person involved in a fatal accident should be detained for 24 hours pending the outcome of the medical report,” the spokesman said. “In a case of a fatal accident, where there is death, as stipulated in the law.”
Teenagers protesting the alleged death of Adamu Babanta blocked the roadway between Bauchi and Tafawa Balewa.
Wakil stated that the matter had been given to the Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) for investigation and that the dead would be given a post-mortem examination.

He reassured the populace that the situation was under control and that combined security operatives had been sent to the region to maintain tranquilly.
Wakil emphasized that the blocked road had been restored, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Sanda, had urged the public to go about their lawful business.
