Gunmen Attack House of Reps Member’s Convoy in Abia, Police Officer Killed.
A tragic incident unfolded in Abia State as unidentified gunmen launched a deadly assault on the convoy of a federal lawmaker, resulting in the death of a Police Officer, with another officer critically injured.
According to reports, the convoy was ambushed at Ubakala, within the Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The vehicle belonged to the representative of Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, who currently serves as the chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes. Notably, Onwusibe was not present during the attack.
Details of the Ambush
The incident reportedly occurred around 9 p.m. on Sunday when the convoy, including two police officers and a driver, was traveling through the area in a Toyota Corolla.

Eyewitnesses and police sources revealed that the assailants, dressed in black and wearing police jackets, blocked the path of the convoy. The attackers allegedly opened fire after the policemen identified themselves.
In the ensuing gunfight, one officer was fatally shot, while the second sustained severe injuries and is currently fighting for his life.
Response from Authorities
Police personnel from the nearby Ubakala Division responded swiftly to the scene, engaging the attackers in a shootout. However, the gunmen managed to flee before additional backup could arrive.
