Witnesses describe scenes of chaos as police officers, deployed to maintain order, instead contributed to the disruption.

The incident unfolded in Woji, Port Harcourt, where police personnel reportedly fired teargas to disperse crowds, further escalating the situation. Eyewitnesses indicate that several individuals sustained injuries amid the turmoil, as police absconded with ballot boxes, undermining the electoral process.
As tensions rise, the power struggle between current Governor Fubara and former Governor Wike intensifies. Wike’s influence in the region remains strong, with allegations that he is leveraging police support to manipulate the electoral landscape in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Critics assert that this collaboration is designed to obstruct the elections and undermine the democratic process in Rivers State.

Adding to the complexity, a court order from Abuja has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), while also instructing police not to provide security during the elections.
However, the Rivers State High Court has mandated INEC to comply with releasing the voters’ registraters, highlighting the necessity for transparency.
