Ex-Cross River Lawmaker, Patrick Uguge Arrested For Allegedly R*ping Wife’s Niece

Former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly Patrick Uguge has been arrested.

The police arrested him for the alleged rape of his wife’s niece.

On April 21, 2023, the suspect allegedly committed the crime at a hotel in Ogoja.

State Police Commissioner Balarabe Sule has confirmed the ex-lawmaker’s detention.

According to reports, the victim is a 19-year-old girl who resides with the suspect’s wife.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 21, 2023, according to Human Rights attorney James Ibor of Basic Right Council Initiative (BRCI), who condemned the state’s alarming rate of r*pe.

Between 2007 and 2015, the suspect represented Ogoja State Constituency.

Attorney Ibor stated, “The suspect claimed that the man raped her in an Ogoja hotel. When the girl approached us, we had to confirm and verify her story. The Police, in response to our petition, took the suspect into custody.

“R*pe is a criminal offence, and the rate of sexual assault is alarming. Therefore, we must protect women from predators. Ibor stated that we are in contact with the victim’s parents, who have confirmed that she was a virgin before the suspect raped her.
