A Nigerian referee has passed away on the pitch, which is perceived as a truly tragic occurrence.
He passed away during a friendly football match in Madalla, Niger State, after the game was interrupted by heavy rain and thunder.

The deceased, known simply as Mustafa Coach 02 among football fans and believed to be a member of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), died tragically Tuesday evening during a match played on the school pitch in Madalla, Niger State.
An eyewitness, Muhammed Musa, told Ejes Gist News Nigeria that the incident occurred during the halftime break of the match between Suleja and Madalla youths at 5:20 p.m.

“It was raining, so the football players and their fans sought shelter in the school’s classrooms. The referee and his assistant (lineman) returned to the pitch and demanded that the players join them.
“They had just reached the centre of the field when the lightning struck. Two of them were rushed to the hospital, where Sulaiman was pronounced dead and his assistant was revived.
A member of the deceased’s family, identified only as Ibrahim, stated that Ibrahim was buried in his hometown of Suleja on Wednesday morning.
