Taraba Rep-Elect Maihanchi Is Dead

Isma’ila Maihanchi, the House of Representatives member-elect for Taraba State’s Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency, has died.

After a brief illness, Maihanchi died in the early hours of Saturday.

He was elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

A family member told Channels Television that his remains would be laid to rest later that day in accordance with Islamic customs.

 

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians who he must have offended in the course of his duties to forgive him as he prepares to leave office in 38 days.

 

The President also thanked Nigerians for putting up with him for the previous eight years as he oversaw the country’s affairs.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents, led by FCT Minister Mohammed Bello, paid him their final Sallah homage on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

 

Without democracy, Buhari claimed he would not have been able to become president after serving as military Head of State. He praised democracy as the best form of government.

 

He stated that he thought the Sallah celebration was a good opportunity to say goodbye and to “thank you for tolerating me for eight years.”

 

“I am counting the days,” President Buhari continued. Democracy is a good thing, or else how can someone from the opposing side serve two terms as president?.

 

“I think it’s a great coincidence that I get to say goodbye and thank you for putting up with me for the past more than seven and a half years.

I assure you that I made the decision to be as far away from you as possible on purpose, not because I don’t value the love you have shown me, but rather because I believe I have received what I asked for and would prefer to retire in peace to my hometown.

 

“I believe God has given me an incredible opportunity to serve as your president after serving as a governor, minister, and president twice. I give God praise for that.

 

So, whoever feels that I have wronged them, please remember that we are all just people. Without a doubt, I injured some people, and I sincerely hope you will forgive me. And if I offended anyone severely, I sincerely apologise.

 

He assured the populace that nothing would prevent the transition to the new administration on May 29.

 

On the parade ground of the Mambilla Barracks, the President had earlier offered the Eid el-Fitr prayer alongside other devout Muslims.
