SAPELE, DELTA STATE — A shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the Sapele community as Mrs. Fatima Umukoro, the proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools, was allegedly murdered by her 25-year-old son, Emmanuel Umukoro, on the night of Saturday, September 8, 2024.

The late Mrs. Umukoro, who was also the wife of Rev. Prince Umukoro, a well-known pastor of Victory Family Assembly International (VIFA), was reportedly killed in their home before her body was set ablaze.

Reports indicate that Emmanuel Umukoro had been grappling with mental health issues, reportedly worsened by substance abuse. Despite undergoing rehabilitation, his addiction reportedly led to unpredictable violent outbursts, one of which seemingly culminated in this fatal event.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the Umukoro residence had drawn attention when neighbors noticed the gate left open late at night, which was unusual for the family. A concerned group of neighbors decided to check on the situation and were greeted by flames coming from inside the house. Upon entering, they discovered Mrs. Umukoro’s lifeless and severely burned body.

 

According to one witness, Emmanuel was seen speeding out of the compound in his mother’s car earlier that evening, raising suspicions. “We saw her son, Emmanuel, driving out at around 8:30 pm at high speed,” said a neighbor. The suspicious circumstances led to his arrest by police along the Sapele-Warri Road, as he attempted to flee the scene.

 

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, noting that Emmanuel is in police custody. However, he stated that the police would need to complete their investigation before confirming his role in the murder.
