She progressed through the ranks of Assistant Lecturer (1988-1991), Lecturer II (1991–1996), Lecturer I (1996–1999), Senior Lecturer (1999–2005), and Associate Professor (2005–October 1, 2007) at the University of Lagos, Idiaraba’s College of Medicine. On October 2, 2007, she began her tenure as the First Professor of Physiology at Lagos State University College of Medicine. The following year, she was elected Deputy Vice Chanecllor for a two-year term.
Professor Yemi Olatunji-Bello was re-elected to a second term as Deputy Vice-Chancellor on January 27, 2011. Between January 2011 and October 31, 2011, she served as acting Vice Chancellor of LASU.
Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has held a variety of administrative and professional positions at UNILAG and LASU. Between 2000 and 2003, she served as Chairman of the Biomedical Communications Management Committee and as a member of the Medical Education Committee. From 1999 to 2004, she served as an elected member of the Academic Board of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos (CMUL). From June 2001 to September 2007, she was a member of the Medilag Consult of the University of Lagos College of Medicine and a member of the University of Lagos Women Society Nursery School Board from December 2000 to March 2005. Until her election as LASU’s first female Deputy Vice Chancellor, she served as the department’s first substantive head.
