Why Obi dumped PDP for Labour Party – Atiku
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, defected from the main opposition party in the run-up to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential primary election in 2022.
Atiku claimed that Obi left the PDP because he was afraid of the demands of the party’s governors, and that he did so in a hurry, during a Thursday press conference in Abuja on the results of the 25 February presidential election.

Atiku stated, “I believe that Peter Obi was in a hurry. When the campaign began and our PDP governors sat down and said they must produce the presidential and vice presidential candidates, Peter Obi fled out of fear.
“I didn’t get scared. I defended myself against the governors. When we founded the PDP, some of them were likely in high school or college. Therefore, why should I fear? Consequently, I stood up and fought them. They contested against me, and I contested against them, and I won the primary election.
Therefore, if he had been present, nothing could have prevented him from becoming my running mate, as I had the freedom to choose whoever I wished.
