Reps back Tinubu on fuel subsidy removal
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to eliminate petroleum product subsidies.
The President has stated that there was no provision for subsidy in the 2023 budget, and that subsidy funds will be used for other purposes.

The House praised the President’s boldness in announcing the removal of subsidies and urged Nigerians to be patient with the new administration.
This was in response to a motion of urgent public importance introduced in the plenary by Representative Jimoh Olajide of Lagos State.
He urged Nigerians to have patience and support the President’s decision to fulfil his promises to the Nigerian people.
He stated that it is evident that the previous administration illegally handled the issue of subsidies by spending money that was not budgeted.

He stated that the President was concerned with the general populace and budgetary reforms, particularly in the areas of health, food security, and education, among others.
NLC faults subsidy removal
Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, stated in terse text, “The comment on the removal of fuel subsidies in the inaugural address is not well-reasoned.
“Within the next 48 hours, the economy of the country will decline by more than 50 percent. At the appropriate time, Nigerians will speak in unison.
