RSIEC Declares APP Winner of 22 Out of 23 Rivers Local Governments in Council Elections

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced that the All People’s Party (APP) emerged victorious in 22 out of the 23 local government positions contested in the recent elections. The declaration was made by Chief Election Officer Justice Adolphus Enebeli on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

 

However, the results for the Etche Local Government Area are currently on hold, as the collation process is still ongoing. Justice Enebeli indicated that the results for Etche, along with the outcomes of the 319 councillorship seats, will be disclosed at a later date.

The elections have been marred by controversies, including allegations regarding the police’s failure to provide adequate security and protests from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the electoral process.

 

Earlier, Aaron Chukwuemeka, the chairman of the Rivers PDP, expressed concerns that the announcement of the results could provoke violence.

He emphasized, “We can’t support or promote lawlessness or impunity in any form whatsoever, even though we are the ruling party in Rivers State. The proper court judgments must be obeyed as we cannot choose or pick which order of court to obey or not to obey.”
