Rivers Guber Tribunal: Cole denies withdrawing petition

Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State in 2023, has assured his supporters that he will pursue his petition challenging the March 18 election result to its logical conclusion.

Cole gave the assurance via his social media accounts on Monday evening, following the withdrawal of the APC from the petition challenging Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Similiayi Fubara’s election as governor-elect of Rivers at the tribunal hearing on the petition in Abuja.

“I formally denounce the false rumours that have been circulating regarding our petition against the results of the Rivers State governorship election,” said the APC candidate. I assure you that our petition remains steadfast and unwavering, and that we will continue to pursue justice.

“Despite attempts to undermine our efforts, I would like to emphasise that we are tirelessly working to ensure that our voices are heard. We will continue to fight for what is right until justice has been served.”

Joe Korka-Waadah, the leader of the Rivers APC, has accused the Rivers PDP of influencing the alleged withdrawal of the APC from the petition challenging Fubara’s victory.

Korka-Waadah alleged, “What more will the PDP in Rivers state not do to distract the APC from the stolen mandate case pending before the tribunal? Why are they afraid if their case is strong?

“I advise the good citizens of the state of Rivers to disregard these deliberate antics. It is as flimsy as its deceptive intent. Rivers APC is in court, and Pastor Tonye Cole is willing, able, and standing tall in his pursuit to redeem the election mandate given by the people of Rivers.

“Do not be misled. We will not budge, nor will we be moved.
At the end of the day, we will recover the stolen mandate.”

A PDP leader and former member of the House of Representatives, Ogbonna Nwuke, responded, “No amount of blackmail or baseless claims can change the fact that Fubara won fairly.

“As a sore loser, Cole will blame PDP for everything. Cole and his bewildered troops request that the tribunal be relocated to Abuja. Now they are in Abuja and he has been abandoned, but he continues to blame PDP. People should understand when to abandon a fruitless pursuit.”
