Samuel Eto’o, football legend and current president of the Cameroon Football Association, was captured on video attacking a man outside a stadium in Qatar during the World Cup.

Initially, Eto’o appears content to pose for photos with fans as he exits the venue, before a man with a video camera approaches him from his right, according to the Daily Mail.

The video, captured by La Opinion, then appears to show the pair exchanging words, before Eto’o returns to the scene a few seconds later to confront the man.

Various bystanders intervene at this point in an attempt to restore order, but Eto’o is determined to pursue the man and is eventually restrained as he continues to confront him.

The man appears to have been unaware that Eto’o had returned to continue the confrontation when he received the brutal blow.

Despite being understandably stunned, the unidentified man is helped to his feet and did not appear to be seriously injured by the shocking blow, while Eto’o is again held back by two men.

According to La Opinion, reporters asked Eto’o what had occurred, but he was ‘out of his mind and was quickly led away by security.

An hour before the unsavoury incident, Eto’o was spotted inside the stadium watching the Brazil match with former NFL player Chad Johnson.

His primary concern in Qatar was his country Cameroon and how they fared in the tournament. However, despite a victory over Brazil, Cameroon was eliminated in the group stage.

Daily Mail has sought comment from both Eto’o and the Cameroon Football Federation.

Eto’o announced his retirement from soccer in 2019, following a stint with Qatar SC. After graduating from Real Madrid’s academy in 1997, he is best known for stints with Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea.

Additionally, he has 118 international appearances, the second-most of any player in history.

It is not the first time in recent months that the 41-year-old has made headlines for reasons unrelated to football. In June, he was given a 22-month suspended prison sentence for a £3 million tax fraud for failing to declare income from the transfer of image rights.

According to Sport, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker admitted the offence but claims that his former agent Jose Maria Mesalles manipulated him.

Eto’o failed to report income derived from the transfer of image rights to Puma and Barcelona between 2006 and 2009 on his income tax return.
