On Monday, the Senate confirmed Rivers State’s immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike, as minister.
Wike, after reciting his CV and achievements, stated that his love for Nigeria compelled him to take the ministerial position.
“I accepted the offer to serve as a ministerial nomination because of my passion to serve Nigeria,” he explained.
Meanwhile, during the screening, River State lawmakers, led by Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers Southeast), assured Nigerians that Wike was the greatest in the state.

“His Excellency former Governor Nyesom Wike is our best in Rivers State,” he remarked. He is both our leader and our role model.
“Distinguished senators, we believe you should allow him to simply take a bow and leave.
“His resume is insufficient to enumerate the works that he has done.”
Following that, Senate President GodsWill Akpabio urged him to take a bow and depart.
Earlier, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau praised the former governor, saying he was proud of the work he performed in Rivers State.

“The first time I got to River State; I was shocked because of the impact of the work that you did in the state,” Barau stated.
“I actually believed I was outside Nigeria, not within the country. Would you be able to duplicate the same performance if you were appointed as a Minister?
“The ex-governor of Rivers State was among the initial group of ministerial candidates sent by Tinubu to the Senate for consideration.”
