Joy Emodi (born May 23, 1955) was elected Senator for the Anambra North constituency in Anambra State, Nigeria, on February 20, 2005, after Emmanuel Anosike’s election was annulled. She was re-elected in 2007, but Alphonsus Obi Igbeke, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) candidate, challenged her second election.
On March 25, 2010, Igbeke was declared the winner after a long series of hearings.

Emodi was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, on May 23, 1955, and is of Igbo descent.
She attended Onitsha’s Queen of the Rosary College before attending the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, where she earned a B.Sc. in Geography Education (1979) and an LLB (1985). She became a professional lawyer in 1987 after completing additional legal training at the Nigeria Law School in Lagos.

Senator Joy Emordi Early career
Emodi worked for the Anambra State Schools Board as an education officer from 1983 to 1986, and then for the Anambra State Development Authority as Executive Secretary from 1994 to 1995. She attended the Third African-American Summit in Senegal in 1995, as well as the World Women Conference in Beijing, China. She was elected to the Constitutional Conference in 1994/1995. During General Sani Abacha’s administration, she was elected National Deputy Chairman (1994) and National Legal Adviser (1996) for the Congress for National Consensus (CNC) party.
In 1999, she ran for governor of Anambra State on the platform of the All People’s Party (APP).
