Anambra shuts down school, fires teacher over exam malpractice
Tower Primary School in Oba has been closed by the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, due to allegations of cheating on the 2023 Transition Placement Examination.
After a meeting to look into the allegations of misconduct made against Precious Chibuzo, a teacher with the Parent-Teacher Association who oversaw the exam at the Umuogali Community Primary School in Oba, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, made the announcement of the closure.

According to information gathered, the school’s proprietress allegedly entered the exam room undetected, colluded with the teacher, took a picture of the question paper, answered the questions, and provided the candidates with the solutions.
Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, the ministry’s public relations officer, said in a statement that an investigation by the ministry in response to complaints from students at Triumphant Cross School, Oba, revealed that the proprietress of the Tower Academy, Oba, colluded with the students in the misconduct.
“The proprietress snuck into the exam room, conspired with the PTA teacher, took a picture of the question paper, solved problems, and gave candidates answers,” Egwuonwu said.
“The PTA teacher, Chibuzo Precious, who had earlier admitted committing the offence, was fired from the school. The proprietress, Kosisochukwu Igwe, who admitted committing the offence, begged for forgiveness.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has ordered a retake of the exam for all of the candidates who were present at the testing centre.

The retake exam, which the commissioner will personally supervise, has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
“The Tower Primary School Oba remains closed until further notice, and Precious Chibuzo, the PTA teacher, should no longer be seen around the school,” the statement reads.
The state government has in the meantime given Triumphant Cross Schools Oba students rewards for reporting cheating on the 2023 Transition Placement Exam. On Monday, the Commissioner made the reward public.
