Sophia Momodu Fires Back at Davido Amid Child Custody Battle
Lagos, Nigeria – In a dramatic turn of events, popular music artiste David Adeleke, known as Davido, has initiated legal proceedings to gain sole custody of his first child, Imade Adeleke, whom he shares with his former partner, Sophia Momodu. The suit, filed by Davido’s legal team, requests unrestricted access to his daughter, citing his significant contributions to her welfare.
Davido’s court documents highlight his ongoing support for Imade’s education, living expenses, healthcare, and other needs. “It is on record that I have been responsible for the payment of all the school fees of my daughter to provide her with the best education possible and to meet all her educational needs without a hitch,” Davido stated.

Outrageous Demands from Sophia Momodu
He further emphasized his role in providing for their daughter’s housing, saying, “I have also been providing money for the rent of the apartment where the respondent (Sophia) resides with our daughter.” Davido also mentioned facing “outrageous demands” from Momodu when he attempted to contribute to their daughter’s life.
In a swift and robust response, Sophia Momodu released a statement of her own, refuting Davido’s claims. She accused Davido of neglecting their child both emotionally and financially since their split in July 2022. According to Momodu, Davido’s lack of support stemmed from her refusal to grant him access to her body.
Momodu’s statement also disputed Davido’s involvement in Imade’s life post-breakup, asserting that he had not seen his daughter by choice since July 2022. “I have never denied him the opportunity to see his daughter,” she insisted. She recounted their relationship history, highlighting periods from 2014 to 2017 and 2020 to 2022, during which she said Davido provided financial support.
Additionally, Momodu alleged that she had faced several threats from Davido over her refusal to engage in a sexual relationship with him.
The unfolding legal battle between Davido and Sophia Momodu has captured public attention, sparking discussions on parental responsibilities and rights. As the case proceeds, both parties are likely to present further evidence and arguments to support their claims.
This high-profile custody dispute underscores the complexities and emotional challenges often associated with co-parenting arrangements after a relationship ends. The outcome will not only impact Davido and Momodu but also set a significant precedent for similar cases in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
