Stop Brainwashing Poor Members with Seed Sowing – Pastor Kumuyi Tells Pastors
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has made a poignant appeal to Nigerian pastors, urging them to cease the practice of exploiting church members through seed sowing for financial gain.
This statement came during a sermon delivered on Friday, October 18, at a Christian meeting.

Pastor Kumuyi emphasised the need for pastors to support their vulnerable congregants, particularly widows, by addressing their genuine needs rather than taking advantage of them under the guise of spiritual prosperity.
He expressed concern over the growing wealth of church leaders at the expense of their members, stating, “Elijah added value to the people that are low and those widows that cannot pay back; that is what the anointing does in our lives. You add value to people; to those who are down, raise them up.

He highlighted the troubling trend where some preachers exploit the little that widows possess, promoting the idea that sowing seeds will yield miraculous returns.
Kumuyi lamented, “In our nation here, they say if you sow this seed, the Lord will multiply it a hundredfold. Let us be sincere. If you are a preacher like that… those widows have next to nothing, then we preachers brainwash them.”
Kumuyi urged fellow pastors to reflect on the well-being of those who give sacrificially to their ministries, questioning, “Where are they today? How are they feeling? How are their children doing?” He pointed out that instead of pastors supporting these widows, many continue to amass wealth, leaving their congregants in dire financial situations.
He concluded by calling for a shift in the church’s approach, encouraging pastors to emulate the example of biblical figures like Elisha, who provided supernatural support to those in need, rather than exploiting them for personal gain.
