Sudan Crisis: Fresh Updates On NIDCOM’s Rescue Mission for stranded Nigerian students
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) disclosed that the crisis in Sudan continues to prevent the commission from transporting students repatriated from Sudan to Egypt.
The Commission revealed in a statement released on Monday that the Egyptian authorities have not yet opened the country’s borders for the students to enter; consequently, the students remain stranded.

NIDCOM added, however, that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C 130 has already landed at the Aswan Airport in Egypt, and that officials are prepared to evacuate the passengers.
While expressing gratitude to NAF, NIDCOM reaffirmed that it will not leave without evacuating the Nigerian students.

Ambassador Laments
Earlier on Sunday, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan, Safiu Olaniyan, provided an update on the Nigerians, including students, who were stranded near the Egyptian border.
Olaniyan, lamenting the lack of food and water for Nigerian students, urged them to remain calm.
He added that the Nigerian embassy in Sudan is not responsible for hiring buses for the students’ evacuation.
According to Olaniyan, the embassy officials are also struggling due to the conflict in Sudan.
