Supreme Court: Plateau Assembly Suspends Recognition of 16 Lawmakers

In a recent revelation, the Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly, Gabriel Dewan, disclosed on Saturday that the Assembly currently recognizes only eight lawmakers.

 

This statement comes in the aftermath of the Supreme Court overturning the Appeal Court’s previous ruling.

In an interview in Jos, Dewan clarified that the Supreme Court‘s decision has nullified the Appeal Court’s judgment, highlighting that only eight lawmakers are presently acknowledged as members of the state assembly.

Despite his affiliation with the Young People’s Party (YPP), an opposition and minority party, Dewan, as the speaker, emphasized his commitment to leading everyone with inclusiveness, irrespective of their political allegiance.

He further stated that the recognition of the 16 lawmakers affirmed by the Court of Appeals would be suspended pending the interpretation of the ‘s ruling. The Supreme Court deemed the actions and decisions of the Appeal Court as flawed and a misuse of the legal system.
