The statement reads: “We, the global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the command and leadership of our great prophet and indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU, wish to announce that May 30, 2023, is Biafra Heroes Day to all Biafrans, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom around the world. It is a day set aside to remember our fallen comrades and those who paid the ultimate price for Biafra’s liberation in 1967-1970 and beyond.

“Mazi Nnamdi KANU and IPOB have designated every 30th of May as a special day to honour the valiant individuals who made the supreme sacrifice so that we may live as a nation. In Nigeria, daily Biafrans are murdered in cold blood, illegally adopted, and unlawfully detained in an effort to liberate Biafra. These heroes and heroines’ sacrifices and memories will never be forgotten.

“Although Nigeria State dubiously removed history from schools and national discussion so that descendants of Biafra would no longer remember and honour our heroes, IPOB leadership refused to allow our heroes’ efforts to be in vain.

Consequently, fellow Biafrans, this 30th of May, 2023 is another sacred day to honour our fallen heroes, heroines, and comrades who sacrificed their lives in defence of our homeland and for the birth of the Biafra Nation.

“In accordance with our culture and out of respect for our slain heroes, IPOB has declared the 30th of May, 2023 a sit-at-home day across the entire Biafran territory to commemorate those who were murdered for Biafra independence and freedom. Members of the IPOB family should organise and observe this date in whatever manner each nation, zone, and unit deems optimal. The IPOB leadership encourages everyone to maintain peace and order throughout the event.

Three minutes of silence should be observed during commemorative ceremonies for the fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives from 1967 to 1970 to the present.
