Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) has commended the efforts of the Tinubu administration in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, noting significant strides towards rebuilding the economy.
Speaking at the inaugural Igbaruku Day organized by the Igbaruku-Okeri Community Development Association (ICDA) in Kogi State, Senator Karimi emphasized the need for collective effort in achieving sustainable economic recovery.

According to Senator Karimi, President Bola Tinubu inherited the worst economic situation in the Fourth Republic. However, he praised the administration’s commitment to transforming the economy into a strong and self-sufficient one. He urged for patience, highlighting the administration’s long-term vision and proactive policies aimed at achieving sustainable economic recovery.
Karimi stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and citizens, emphasizing that economic recovery requires collective action.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by the administration but expressed confidence that with patience and cooperation, significant progress could be achieved in the short term.

Highlighting the administration’s achievements, Senator Karimi pointed out the improvement in the average gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate and the stabilization of the Naira against the Dollar. He cited the revival of key infrastructure such as the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries as indicators of progress.
In addition to addressing national issues, Senator Karimi reiterated his commitment to the infrastructural development of Kogi West. He assured the community of ongoing efforts to improve the Iluhagba-Egbe Federal Trunk A Road and pledged to prioritize the financial autonomy of local government administrations for grassroots development.
The event also saw discussions on the importance of supporting the proposal for the establishment of state police to enhance security at the local level. Senator Karimi assured that the National Assembly would prioritize legislation to address security challenges and protect the economy.
The occasion of Igbaruku Day 2024 was marked by the inauguration of the Igbaruku Council of Chiefs and the recognition of individuals who contributed to community development projects. Dignitaries including Senator Smart Adeyemi and former Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mr. Austen Olorunsola, were honored for their outstanding contributions.
