Asari Dokubo visits Tinubu says “releasing Nnamdi Kanu will escalate crisis in south-east, exposes Nigerian military”
Tinubu meets with Asari Dokubo at Aso Villa.
He Expresses Concerns over Release of IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu and Highlights Oil Theft and Security Issues.
In a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Niger Delta leader and former agitator, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, expressed his reservations about the potential release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Dokubo firmly believed that releasing Kanu would not alleviate tensions in the South-East; instead, he argued that it would only escalate them.
Addressing State House correspondents following his closed-door meeting with President Tinubu, Dokubo emphasized his stance on the matter. He referred to Kanu’s alleged involvement in stoking the flames of the EndSars protests, asserting that releasing him would be tantamount to rewarding criminality and the gruesome murder of innocent people. In Dokubo’s opinion, Kanu should face the full force of the law for his actions and instigations.

During the discussion, Dokubo also drew attention to the issue of oil theft in the Niger Delta region. He made the startling claim that a majority of the cases were traceable to the Nigerian military, specifically the Army and Navy.
Dokubo stressed the need for transparency and urged the Nigerian public to recognize that almost 99% of oil theft could be attributed to the military. He expressed his support for the Federal Government’s efforts to combat oil theft and expressed confidence that the Tinubu-led administration would identify and hold the responsible elements within the military accountable.

Furthermore, Dokubo highlighted the topic of security, challenging the notion that the military was ill-equipped to confront terrorism, banditry, and militancy head-on. He dismissed such claims as nothing more than blackmail against the Nigerian state. Dokubo argued that the military possessed sufficient resources to combat these security challenges effectively and called for an end to the prevailing narrative of under-equipped forces.
Dokubo’s meeting with President Tinubu centered around the pressing issues of Nnamdi Kanu’s potential release and the critical matters of oil theft and security. The outcome of their nearly two-hour discussion remains undisclosed, leaving the public eager to witness the government’s response to these pressing concerns.
