Kashim Shettima, the vice-president-elect, stated that his boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has no preferred candidate for Senate president.
Tinubu, represented by Shettima, disclosed this at Monday’s meeting with newly-elected senators on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.

Abdulmalik Bungudu, a member-elect for the Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency in the state of Zamfara, disclosed this shortly after the meeting.
Bungudu, who spoke in Hausa, disclosed that Tinubu told attendees that he had no preferred candidates for any of the 10th National Assembly’s top offices.
Shettima was quoted as saying, “For the time being, Tinubu has stated that he does not have a preferred candidate for Senate President or Speaker, but consultations will continue to find a solution for the party and ensure its victory in the upcoming governorship and Houses of Assembly elections.”
This online newspaper reports that some media outlets had predicted that the Southeast would produce the next president of the Senate.
Orji Uzor Kalu, the incumbent Senate Chief Whip and former governor of Abia State, is also reportedly a frontrunner for the position. Kalu and Tinubu have been longtime friends.
