Tinubu Threatened Fubara and Imposed Resolution, Claims Ex-Rivers Commissioner.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – In a startling revelation, Chief David Briggs, a member of the Rivers Elders’ Forum and former Commissioner for Works in Rivers State, alleges that President Bola Tinubu exerted pressure on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, compelling him to sign a resolution during a crisis-resolution meeting.
Briggs, who attended the meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, asserts that the President, armed with a written resolution, issued veiled threats, pressuring Governor Fubara to endorse the document without input.

The meeting, which included key stakeholders like former Governor Peter Odili and immediate past Governor Nyesom Wike, aimed to address the political turmoil in Rivers State. President Tinubu directed the withdrawal of all court matters initiated by the governor and his team concerning the crisis.
Briggs claims that President Tinubu handed the resolution to Dr Peter Odili to read, emphasizing his authority as the President of Nigeria and hinting at consequences for those who opposed him.

“I was there, so what I say is primary not secondary. Mr. President walked in with a written resolution, declared it a presidential proclamation, and emphasized consequences for dissent,” Briggs stated in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to Briggs, Fubara, facing a subtle but energetic threat, had little choice but to comply. The former commissioner points out that many present, including former Attorney-General Adokiye Amiesimaka, were shocked by the President’s undemocratic approach.
Briggs questions the President’s double standard, citing his silence on the defection of Assembly members to the APC without consulting their constituencies. The President’s response, according to Briggs, affirmed his leadership in the APC.
While Briggs commends Governor Fubara’s maturity during the meeting, he suggests there might be plans to lure Fubara into the APC to avoid impeachment. Briggs contends that Tinubu prioritized his party’s interests while mediating peace in Rivers State.
In analyzing the situation, Briggs notes the danger in Governor Fubara attracting external conflict amid internal challenges. Despite the alleged coercion, Briggs acknowledges the intelligence and commitment to governance displayed by Governor Fubara.
The unfolding events raise concerns about the political landscape in Rivers State, highlighting the delicate balance between resolving internal conflicts and safeguarding democratic principles.
