The National Election Tribunal sitting in Enugu has ruled in favor of Senator Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party, affirming his victory in the Enugu East Senatorial district election. This ruling comes after former Governor of Enugu state, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), filed a petition challenging the election results.
Senator Chukwu emerged as the winner of the Enugu East Senatorial district election with over 69,000 votes, defeating Senator Nnamani, who secured approximately 49,000 votes. However, Nnamani contested the election results, alleging over-voting, irregularities, election malpractices, and non-compliance with electoral guidelines.

In today’s ruling, the three-man tribunal panel led by Justice Nusirat I. Umar unanimously upheld Senator Chukwu’s victory. The tribunal not only dismissed Nnamani’s petition but also imposed a cost of N500,000 against the petitioners, favoring the three respondents: Senator Kelvin Chukwu, the Labour Party, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
