Gunmen attack Anambra police station, kill two officers.
Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen bombed the Umunze Police Station in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, in a deadly attack on Monday and killed two police officers.
It was gathered that the attackers had stormed the station with improvised explosives and immediately opened a sustained gun battle with the police. In trying to repel the attack, two policemen became victims of the unfortunate incident.

Confirming the attack, the Anambra State Police Command Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said joint security forces comprising the Nigerian Army and Navy recovered five unexploded improvised explosives at the scene.
He said, “We are pursuing the armed secessionist group responsible for this heinous attack.” He assured the public that efforts were in place to bring the perpetrators to book.

This was followed by a visit by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, to assess the extent of the damage and tighten security measures.
Ikenga called on members of the public with useful information about the incident to avail the command with such information, as he promised, “Any information shared will be treated with the highest confidentiality.”
This attack adds to the growing concern over security in the region, as the police and other security agencies are busy tackling the growing threats posed by armed groups.
