This incident comes on the heels of heightened political tension in the state. Politics Nigeria previously reported that Governor Siminalayi Fubara convened a security council meeting with heads of security agencies to address the recent political developments. The meeting, held behind closed doors at the Government House in Port Harcourt, focused on strategies to manage the invasions of local government secretariats.

Following the meeting, Governor Fubara briefed the press, stating that the discussions with security heads were centred on measures to contain the unrest at the local government secretariats. Earlier, the governor had directed heads of administration in the 23 local government areas to assume control from the elected council chairmen, whose three-year tenure expired on Monday.

However, 21 of the 23 outgoing LG chairmen have refused to hand over, leading to escalating tensions in the state. The situation remains volatile as authorities work to restore order.
