Geng Quangrong, a Chinese national, has refuted the accusations made against him in front of the Kano High Court on Miller Road, presided over by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji.
Geng Quangrong is accused of killing his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari.

Due to the lack of an interpreter and the accuser’s assertion that they did not speak English, the case was not heard, the last time and was adjourned.
The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria provided Mr. Guo Cumru as an interpreter for the court for the resumed hearing, which was conducted by Musa Abdullahi Lawal, the attorney general of Kano State.
According to him, the ministry wrote to the embassy when the trial was postponed due to a lack of an interpreter, and they provided them with one.
As a result, the court requested Cumru to testify in front of the court and translate for the accused person from English to Chinese.

The prosecution attorney subsequently submitted an application for the accused person’s trial in accordance with Kano State’s Administration of Criminal Justice Law, Section 123 sub 1a.
That on September 16, 2022, at around 21:00, you, Geng Quangrong of the railway quarters in Kano, went to a home in the Janbulo Quarters of the Gwale Local Government Area of Kano, and that is when you committed culpable homicide that is punished by death.
“That you committed an offence under Section 221(b) of the Penal Code, as amended, by stabbing Ummukulsum Sani Buhari of the same address on various parts of her body while knowing that her death would be a likely result of your act.”

However, the accused person refuted the accusation made against him.
The Attorney General requested a two-week adjournment of the case so they may present witnesses on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of November.
However, the defence team, lead by Muhammad Balarabe Dan’azumi, objected and asked for a different date because it was not convenient for him.
The attorney for the prosecution made a motion requesting that the interpreter, who is from Abuja, be taken into consideration.

The matter was therefore postponed until the 16th, 17th, and 18th of November for additional hearing by the judge, Sunusi Ado Ma’aji.
Geng is charged with murdering 23-year-old Ummulkulthum Buhari and trespassing.
According to reports, the accused and the deceased were dating before things went south.
