The United States Government has returned $954,000 stolen by Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the former governor of Bayelsa State, to the state government via the Federal Government.
Thursday afternoon in Abuja, US Ambassador to Nigeria Mary Beth Leonard announced the development to the press.

She stated that the former governor’s official salary during his tenure as a public servant from 1999 to 2005 did not match the stated amount.
She stated, “However, during that time he amassed millions of dollars through abuse of office and money laundering.”

In October 2015, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha passed away at the age of 62.
President Muhammadu Buhari has immediately ordered that the aforementioned sum be used to improve Bayelsa’s healthcare system.
