Recall that the party’s National Working Committee had severed ties with the Apapa-led faction’s NEC meeting in Bauchi State.
Deputy National Chairman of the party, Ladi Illiya, who spoke at the party stakeholders meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, including the majority of the 36 State Chairmen and Secretaries, stated that the party remains committed despite the efforts of paid agents to destabilise the party, as they reaffirmed their support for Julius Abure, as National Chairman, as confirmed by the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Asaba recently.
Meanwhile, Apapa and the acting National Secretary, Saleh Lawan, stated that they had forgiven some prominent members of the party, including Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Alex Otti, who attended a “illegal” National Executive Council, NEC, meeting organised by the Julius Abure executive in Asaba, Delta State.
It was stated that the decision to pardon the members was made in the best interests of the party and the nation.
Recall that the LP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis, with two factions claiming to be the party’s leadership.
In spite of this, the faction of the LP led by Apapa stated in a communiqué, “We have forgiven those who attended the illegal NEC meeting in Asaba because they acted ignorantly and were in defiance of the FCT High Court’s restraining order.
“However, the LP believes in the rule of law and will stand with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to reclaim our stolen mandate before the presidential election petition tribunal,” the statement continued.

The LP faction sympathised with Nigerians over the country’s current economic difficulties and vowed that its future government would take immediate action to remedy the situation.
